Mantra Line-Ups

The Mantra Experience system Ⓡ is inspired by the evolution of fantasy football games and the combination of football managerial videogames such as Football Manager,* delivering a fantasy game with a more engaging gaming experience that emphasizes the value and the choices of the Fanta manager.

The Fantacalcio Classic game rules: all the previous game rules used in Fantacalcio Classic are valid also for Fantacalcio Mantra if not clearly stated they are not.
The managerial factor: to win it is no longer enough to bet on the best strikers but to compete you need to create a complete and well-balanced team according to your favorite tactical ideas (442,443,343,4312.3421, etc).

The tactics factor: the formation of the regular lineup and the bench is firmly bound to the tactical chances offered by the entire squad available.

Transfer Market factor: due to the tactic chosen by the Fanta manager the Transfer Market sessions become more important since the new deals will happen according to how the team’s backbone is built.

Each player on the list has his specific role and position on the pitch:

For instance Theo Hernandez is Ds

  • Role: D (defender)
  • Position: S (Left)

For defenders, there are both roles and positions whereas for all the other cases there are only roles.

The football player must be coherently included in one of the available game schemes (as in the real football formations).  There are players able to fit only one role and there is a large group of multi-purpose players usable in multiple roles (exactly as it happens for real football players).

Mantra Roles Legend

There are 11 tactical roles available for the MANTRA game system.
In addition to the fixed position of the goalkeeper, the players are deployed in four lines of pitch:

  • DIFESA(Defense),
  • CENTROCAMPO (Midfield),
  • TREQUARTI (Front),
  • ATTACCO (Attack).
In the tactical schemes if two roles are indicated in a single position on the field means that they are alternative.

All the schemes will require the use of 5 defensive players (Dd, Ds, Dc, E, M) and 5 offensive players (C, T, W, A, Pc). This role assortment is balanced to obtain a potential team that is always balanced between each formation available in the game. This allows 11 tactical solutions all with the same starting value.

Mantra Line-Ups

The first step in setting up the formation on the pith is choosing the line-up among those available in the game. Subsequently, it will be possible to set up 11 players in line with their roles.

The bench is made up of 12 players, of which at least one has to be the goalkeeper. They can be listed in order of preference, that is, starting with the player you prefer to enter first in substitution if the change is tactically possible.
The bench order is fundamental in the management of substitutions since the order in which the players were inserted leads to the mechanisms of changes.
Therefore, the most offensive football players have to be inserted first and/or the ones the Fanta manager believes are potential carriers of better performances.

They will only come into your side if members of your starting line-up do not register a significant number of minutes to get a rating.

Substitutions are automatic and will protect you whenever one or more of the players you picked for your starting eleven doesn’t play. It’s very useful for last-minute injuries, untimely suspensions, postponed matches, etc.

The number of available substitutions5 by default, but this option can be fully customized.

You can only make changes to your starting eleven until 15 minutes before the start of the first game of the Gameweek.

The order of players on your bench will also have to be managed. The order you select will be the one used when one of your starters fails to get on the pitch.

The replacement of the goalkeeper: the goalkeeper, in any situation, is always the first to be replaced if the regular one is absent.

The default mode is called BASIC and is the one that gives priority to the formation selected by the Fanta manager. If the original formation is not reproducible without penalizations, it is possible to switch automatically to a new formation without penalizations. If this possibility is also not available, it is possible to switch to adapted changes with penalizations.

However, it is possible to choose between two further alternative options:

EASY OPTION: a mode without formation change. The initial game module never changes, the system first searches for solutions without penalizations, and then if it doesn’t succeed in the change without penalizations it adapts to solutions with penalizations.

**MASTER OPTION: This is a mode that does not give any priority to the base module over the other modules. The bench order influences the change. The chosen hierarchical order will be the one that leads to solutions without penalizations being a priority over those ones with penalizations.

**the most strategic and suitable mode for the users with a full understanding of Mantra’s substitution rules.

Mantra Substitutions

Mantra Substitutions

  • Por – Goalkeeper
  • Dc  – Centre Defender, regardless of whether they are used in a 3 or 4 defensive line.
  • Dd – Right Wing Back in a 4 defensive line.
  • Ds – Left Wing Back in a 4 defensive line.

E – Defensive Outsiders, usually used to complete the three-man defensive line. They can also play stably in the middle of the field, but their coverage tasks tend to have priority on the “pushing phase”. They are also those who in the defense phase is lowered to the line of the defenders.
M – Defensive Midfielders: are distinguished by their strong defensive skills and for coverage, doubling, and interdiction phase. These represent by far their main tactical tasks. it’s their characteristics and not the position on the field that determines the assignment of this role. By the way, often the play in the bottom of the midfield, before the defensive line.
C – Centre Midfielders: participate in the construction and support of the offensive phase, making also their contribution to the defensive phase. In these categories belong the so-called “movie directors” and the majority of the midfielders, including the box-to-box football players.
T – Trequartista (Attacking Midfielder) is a midfielder with strong offensive skills and little or no dedication to the coverage phase. He is a player who usually plays over the “fantasy line” centrally or even wide in a three attacking line, with finishing and/or insertion tasks. A small number of offensive midfielders also fit this category where they have no contribution in the coverage face.
W- Wingers : are offensive pure outsiders employed on the frontline or even in an offensive 3 line. Unlike the connecting attackers, they aim for the bottom more often and prefer the assisting phase to their partner over the personal conclusion.
A – Attacker (Inside Forward), on the other hand, is not purely an area man, he participates organically in the offensive maneuver, playing outside in a trident or in support of a center forward (alongside him or even acting behind him in the position of a fake attacking midfielder). In the wing, unlike the wings, they are often used with the foot reversed to allow them to return towards the center and kick more easily on goal.
Pc Stryker (Center Forward) is defined as the one who plays at the tip, stationing more or less regularly near the penalty area, regardless of whether he has the characteristics of a pure center forward or a point of movement. There are no extremely rigid criteria in assigning roles to players. Indeed, in general, the decisions are the result of a mix of considerations made on a case-by-case basis by our staff on the basis of:
– Technical and tactical characteristics of the player
– Recent history (maximum two or three years) of the player
– Tactical context in which the player will play
– Specific weight in the player’s list (basically, where possible and where necessary, we try to be wider than our sleeves with players with second-tier fantasy football appeal).

Please note: It should always be kept in mind that the roles are assigned towards the end of July, therefore just before the start of the season, and are no longer touched for a whole year. Without prejudice to the fact that it can happen that some evaluation is wrong, it is also physiological the possibility during the season of unforeseen tactical evolutions of a team or even of a single player: on these aspects, since we are not equipped with a crystal ball, we can do little.

Mantra is a game system highly customizable and the best auction system is the RANDOM method: the random extraction of all the players present in the list on which to bid. This method is by far the most suitable one because it allows you to amend your choices during the auction according to the players purchased and the missed ones. Due to the tactical component of Mantra this auction method acquires decisive importance since tends to create more balanced teams among the league’s participants.

The ideal number of participants in a league varies from 8 to 12 teams and when the league is numerous is better since with Mantra, the depth of the list is better exploited, revaluating, for example, the whole list of defensive midfielders (M) often avoided in a classic environment.
The development of the auction with the random method will also tell you which game system (442.343,443,352, etc) to follow. It is wise to have at least 2 players for each position of your base module, to which you can add some multi-role football players and some players able to implement tactical variations.
With the Mantra game system, only a minimum of 23 men in the squad including 2 goalkeepers must be respected and the ideal number of football players for a squad is 28/30. In general, squad size should be related to the frequency with whom you can refer to the transfermarket. The less frequent the transfermarket sessions are, the more useful it is to strive for larger squads.

Mantra includes specific MODIFIERS FACTORS (optional, not compulsory) for those ones wishing to enrich their gaming experience:
R-Factor – PERFORMANCE FACTOR rewards (or penalizes) the overall quality expressed by the team on the pitch by measuring the number of players with at least sufficient basic rating. The more there are, the more it means that the team has performed well.
D-Factor- DEFENSIVE FACTOR assigns bonus points (or subtracts penalties from the opponent) in the case of good performance, measured by the average rating of the defensive package. It takes into consideration the 5 defensive men present in each scheme but, in the case of a team whose number of players containing the roles Dc, Dd, Ds, E, and M is greater than five units, the 5 with the best rating will be taken into consideration. However, in this case at least 3 of them must have the role of Dc, Dd, or Ds. Also available in the 5 + 1 version with the addition of the goalkeeper. In this configuration, the average rating must be made on 6 players.
R-Factor and D-Factor cannot be used simultaneously, but are alternative options.

Also compatible and always optional are the Fair-Play and Captain adds-on.
