The facility in via Persico, initially called Campo di Porta Venezia, was inaugurated on November 2, 1919 and since 1924 has been named after Giovanni Zini, Cremonese goalkeeper who died during the First World War.
In the opening match, the grigiorossi hosted the Milanese of Juventus Italia in the Lombard First Category championship, group A. Over the years, the structure that hosts the home matches of the Cremonese, while maintaining its original soul, has changed its appearance becoming today a modern and up to the times and needs. Since 2007, the square in front of the stadium and the central grandstand have been named after Domenico Luzzara, president of Cremonese from the end of the 1960s to the beginning of the 2000s, who died in 2006. The Curva Sud is instead named after Erminio Favalli, a former football player and manager of the grigiorosso .
In the summer of 2017, following the promotion to Serie B of the Cremonese and through the direct commitment of the Arvedi property, the coverage of the South Curve was built and various maintenance interventions were carried out. In the same period, work began on the construction of the new Distinti sector, also equipped with a roof, inaugurated in January 2018 on the occasion of Cremonese-Parma.
By virtue of the promotion to Serie A won on May 6, 2022, again thanks to the ownership of the Cremonese, the Zini was the scene of further modernization works which involved: the laying of a new turf (equipped with an underground heating system), the replacement of the lighting with a new LED system, the installation of a modern, functional audio system complete with the Evac system, the entire renovation of the changing room area, anti-doping room and infirmary located under the central grandstand, the realization of the field boxes where the Parterre sector once stood and of the new benches, the enhancement of the press stand, the press area created inside the modular compartment located in the parking lot in via Bibaculo, the creation of the exclusive skyboxes in the Distinti and the welcoming hospitality areas in the Central Tribune and in the Distinti themselves.
