Inter beat for 2-1 la Juventus a San Siro and wins the sixth Supercoppa Italiana of its history. The Nerazzurri’s success comes in the last seconds of extra time: wrong stop of Alex Sandro in the penalty area, darmian with the tip of the foot, press the insertion of Sanchez that slips Perin and thrills the Inter fans. The Meazza match was very balanced: the two goals that led the match beyond the 90 ‘both came in the first half.
Inter have a strong start and demand a penalty kick at 11 ‘for an alleged foul on Stretcher, but neither the referee Duties nor the VAR grant the penalty. Juventus takes confidence and on 25 ‘finds the goal of the advantage with Weston McKennie, good at exploiting the good cross of Morata from the left and the uncertainty of De Vrij in marking. The Nerazzurri, however, react immediately and in the 34th minute they earn a penalty with Dzeko, spread by The Sciglio. From the disk Lautaro Martinez displaces Perin and settles the score. The second half is marked by balance, with opportunities for both teams.

Even in extra time the situation remains in perfect equality, until the final flicker of Sanchez. Juve was already projected to penalty kicks, in fact Allegri was preparing the last change: Bonucci, recovered at the last minute and with no minutes in his legs, he was ready to enter the field only to kick from the spot. However, the ball was no longer released and in the end the Bianconeri also conceded goals. Double insult then for Bonucci, who after Sanchez’s goal almost comes to blows with an Inter manager (Mozzillo, secretary of the first team).

La Italian Super Cup 2021 – 2022 is destined to remain in history because it indelibly marks two new eras on the Italian football scene: the new Nerazzurri cycle led by Simone Inzaghi and the end of Massimiliano Allegri’s Juventus cycle.

Let’s start with the winners. Last year Inter went back to winning a title in Italy (it hadn’t happened since 2011) and did it with Antonio Conte on the bench. The victory of the Scudetto, the way the team plays, the attitude of the Nerazzurri players on the pitch are all merits attributable in large part to the Apulian coach. Everything was ready for the start of a great cycle, but as often happens in football, in the summer came the twist: Conte leaves. As a winner, but he leaves. And besides him they also go away Lukaku e Hakimi, undoubtedly the two best players of the Nerazzurri ride for the Scudetto. The Nerazzurri summer market is not stellar, the opponents are strengthening: Inter in a few months has lost all its certainties and is no longer the favorite to win the title.
We start from scratch again, with new points of reference to find. In place of Conte, at the Nerazzurri technical guide, he arrives on tiptoe Simone Inzaghi: and immediately takes Inter. In a few months the team immediately reaches the top of the Serie A standings, passes the Champions League group ten years after the last time and wins the Italian Super Cup. Inzaghi was good at inheriting the excellent work left to him by Antonio Conte, expanding and even improving it where possible. Inter are now freer and more ambitious than before, and the results are even more positive. Many were amazed by all this, but in reality Simone Inzaghi’s curriculum speaks for itself: in the last ten years in Italy he is the one who has won the most after Allegri and Conte, who have grinded trophies with Juventus.

Speaking Juve, the bianconeri after the defeat in the Super Cup say goodbye to a cycle. Allegri he had returned to try to raise the bianconeri after the last year slightly subdued compared to the past (the only season from 2011 – 2012 in which the Scudetto did not arrive), but he found himself a team full of problems. The so-called “old” are no longer convincing as they once were and the newcomers are not suited to Juventus’ winning style. It must be said that in last night’s race there were many absences: Szczesny, Cuadrado, Bonucci, DeLigt, Church over all. But Juve a few years ago had reserves that were the envy of the owners of the other Serie A. Not today, today the reserves are not even remotely comparable to certain owners.
But the real Achilles heel is the midfield: he is too slow, he can’t get the team to run well. In attack after the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo there is no one able to guarantee 15/20 goals per season. The only department that still holds up is the defense, but Bonucci e Chiellini they are not eternal and, taken away Cuadrado, on the wings The Sciglio, Alex Sandro, Danilo e Pellegrini they do not give reliability. Juventus now if they want to go back to being great they have to start a new process of reconstruction, but they have to do it with the right choices.
A cycle that begins and a cycle that closes: the Italian Super Cup has left important consequences for the future of two great teams of Italian football.
