The protagonist of our column “The Poet of the Week” after the thirty-first matchday of Serie A is undoubtedly the center forward of theUdinese Beto. The Portuguese striker played his best game of his career on Sunday, scoring one hat-trick against Cagliari. On the occasion of the first goal he breaks away very well in the penalty area and scores from the right on the fly in extension, taking advantage of the nice cross from the left of Pereyra. The second arrives on the counterattack: the Portuguese is served by Success and goes away alone, then face to face with Cragno not wrong. The third network is the easier one: Pusset puts the ball in the middle and Beto alone in the area pushes him in with his head.
With this hat-trick (his first in his career) the ’98 bomber interrupted a long fast 9 games: did not score in fact since 9st January (Udinese-Atalanta 2-6). Beto is now at altitude 11 goal in the league: after Cristiano Ronaldo e Rui Costa he is the third Portuguese footballer to reach double figures in a single Serie A season.
It is yet another young talent unearthed around the world by Udinese, who over the years has always given us great players. Arrived from Portimonense on the last day of the summer market, August 31, Beto began his Italian adventure quietly. In the first three games of this championship he has never started as a starter. Then on September 26 against the Fiorentina finally manages to play 90 minutes, but without finding the goal. From the game after he immediately shows what he’s worth, scoring three goals in three matches. Over time he takes the starting shirt and convinces everyone, showing all his qualities. He is skilled in aerial play thanks to his statuesque physique, but despite this he is still very fast.
He says he is inspired by Samuel Eto’o, in fact, the number 9 shirt is a tribute to the Cameroonian bomber, who in his first season in Serie A scored 12 goals, one more than the Udinese striker: Beto can therefore overcome his idol in these last 7 league matches .
The center forward born in Lisbon from parents of Guinea-Bissau, has never yet been called up for the national team. In the role of central point the Portugal has important names: Cristiano Ronaldo, Diogo Jota e André Silva over all. But Beto is showing off and is certainly among the youngest and most brilliant talents in his country. With a grand finale of the season he could earn the Portuguese national team jersey and, why not, maybe even a call to the World Cup in Qatar.
