Poet of the week: Olivier Giroud

The protagonist of the column “The Poet of the week”After the twenty-fourth match day he can only be the derby man Olivier Giroud. The French striker of the Milan took the stage on Saturday night scoring a brace in 3 minutes againstInter, thus reopening the Scudetto fight.

In the shade for almost the entire match, Giroud pulled out his claws in the final match: in the 75th minute he scored the equalizer by pushing a deflected shot into the goal. Brahim Diaz; at 78 ‘, with his back to the goal, he manages to turn around as a great attacker, displaces De Vrij and beats Handanovic with a left low shot. It must be said that the Nerazzurri goalkeeper puts some of his own into it, because Giroud’s shot is not irresistible, but the play to get rid of De Vrij is a football textbook.

After Saturday’s performance, the world champion striker has 7 goals in Serie A, all scored at San Siro: evidently he has established a particular feeling with the Rossoneri audience.

At 35, the Montpellier striker still knows how to be decisive in important matches. On the other hand, he has always been a derby man: in London he has played as many as 72 between Arsenal e Chelsea, scoring 21 goals. He made the most beautiful with the Gunners shirt: scorpio on an assist by Alexis Sanchez. Destiny wanted the two to find themselves as opponents in the Milan derby: among other things, Giroud stole the ball from Sanchez on the occasion of the Rossoneri’s equalizer.

In his career he has never been a very titular, he has often carried out the work of a wingman, always being ready in time of need. In the national team, however, he has always been: with the Bleus he played 3 European and 2 World Cups, in 110 appearances he scored 46 goals, winning a World Cup in 2018.

Lately, however, not much has been taken into consideration: the return of Benzema, competition with the youngest Mbappé e Griezmann they made Giroud demote in the hierarchies of The fields. The coach, however, knows him well, he also called him when he was not a starter in the Premier League, because he has always appreciated his being decisive in big matches. As proof of this, the French forward scored another brace last night in Coppa Italia in the match won by Milan 4-0 against Lazio, leading the Rossoneri to the semifinals. Giroud, if he continues to be decisive in important matches, will still be able to take away a lot of satisfaction, both in the Rossoneri and with the France.
