Poet of the week: Victor Osimhen

The protagonist of our column “The Poet of the Week” after the twenty-ninth matchday of Serie A is the bomber of Napoli Victor Osimhen. The Nigerian forward scored twice in Sunday’s match against Verona: in the first goal he is good at exploiting an excellent cross by politan from the right and to push the ball into the net with a great header; in the second he is ready in the center of the penalty area, collects the pass of Di Lorenzo and first with the right he beats Montipo ‘.

Thanks to these two goals, Osimhen reached 13 this season (9 in the league and 4 in the Europa League). He also produced 4 assists, which for a first striker are not few. The curiosity is that of the 9 goals scored in Serie A, 7 have come far from Maradona. To make a further qualitative leap, the Nigerian striker must try to reverse the trend and score more within friendly walls.

However, he is another player compared to last season. He had closed the last championship with 10 goals in 24 games, now with 9 matches remaining he is 9 in 19. It must be considered that in 2020/2021 Osimhen had several physical problems, which made him miss several games .

This year he is proving to be a complete striker. He is fast, technical, physically strong and moves for the team. He has also improved a lot in the header: 5 of the 9 goals scored in Serie A 2021/2022 were in fact scored with this fundamental (last season he scored only one). Even in Lille he did not excel at headers (just one goal). It was since the days of Charleroi that he was not so prolific with this gesture.

Spalletti is betting a lot on his number 9, he is working on it and making it grow. Osimhen is only 23 years old and is already considered a top player in our league. With a player like this, Napoli can really aim for the Scudetto.
